Diet is defined as the normal food we eat. When someone is trying to lose weight and the food that person consumes is defined a s diet. In other word ,to restrict oneself to small amounts of special kinds of food in order to lose weight is called diet. A balanced diet provides all the essential nutreints for health, fitness, strength and wellbeing. Balanced diet contains right amount of carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals , water and roughage to meet the daily requirements of the body.Balanced diet varies with lifestyle, activities and age also.
Balanced diet is the one which contains a variety of foods in such quantities and proportions that the need for energy, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fats is adequately met for maintaining health, vitality and general well being and also makes a small provision for extra nutrients to withstand short duration of leaness.
There are several types of diet . many of which have been studied for weight loss reduction, rather than maintenance of normal weight. These inculde low calories, low fat ,low carbohydrates, high protein and portion controlled diets.
Low fat diet, vegetarian diet , prudent diet,Macrobiotic diet,Paleo Diet and mediterranean diet are among the most commonly used diets to maintain good health, where weight loss is not necessarily the primary goal. All of these diets are associated with health benefits. The decision to choose one of these diets is generally based on patient preferences and the ability to adhere to a given diet.
Types Of Diet:
Prudent Diet: Prudent diet is characrterized by higher intake of vegetables,fruit,legumes,whole grains, fish and poultry.
Mediterranean Diet: Meditererranean diet is characterized by high concsumption of olive oil, legumes, unrefined cereals, fruits and vegetables.Moderate to high consumtions of fish, moderate consumption of dairy produstc (mostly as cheese and yogurt), moderate wine consumptions and low consumption of meat and meat products.
Vegetarian diet: There are different types of vegetarian diets
Vegatarian:Includes plant -based foods and eliminates some animal derived foods.
Vegan: Includes only food from plant sources.
Ovovegetarian: Include eggs, vegetables,grains,legumes,fruits and nuts.Excludes flesh seafood and milk.
Lacto-ovo-vegetarian: Eats both eggs and milk products. They are not strictly vegetarians as eggs and milk are products derived from animals.
Lacto Vegetarian: Includes dairy, vegetables, grains, legumes, fruits and nuts. Excludes flesh seafood and eggs.
Macrobiotic diet: A vegan diet composed mostly of whole grains, beans and certain vegatables. Often ytaken to extremes, this diet can compromise nutrient intake.
Paleo Diet: The paleo diet also called caveman diet is type of diet based on the foods eaten by early humans. The food that can be eaten are consisted of grass-fed meats, fish/seafood, fruits and vegetables, eggs,nuts and seeds and healthy oils.However paleo enthusiasts avoid grain cereals, dairy, refined sugar, salt, processed foods , legumes, and refined oils.

High Protein Diet: A diet in which high quantites of protein are consumed with the intention of building muscle. Not to be confused with low carb diets.
High Residue Diet: A diet in which high quantites of dietary fiber are consumed.
